Tiny Homes…Could You Live in One?
It's official. The new tiny living phenomenon has got everyone's attention and there is even a version of HGTV's hit series House Hunters dedicated specifically to those seeking tiny houses. The philosophy behind this idea is a millennial slash minimalistic one (say that three times fast) where instead of spending often hundreds of thousands of dollars on a mortgage payment, these brave souls embrace hardly any square footage in their homes for the ability to travel, stay safely out of debt, and live without the burden of a big home and all of its tedious maintenance. It's not without sacrifice however, there is little to practically non-existent storage or closet space since every square inch is devoted to optimal living space. Some tiny homes don't even have an oven or stove top! And you can pretty much say goodbye to privacy...
These tiny creations definitely have their niche and are also gaining popularity with those conscientious of the environment. Some builders have devoted and engineered their tiny homes to be self-sufficient in hopes of leaving as "minimal a footprint" as possible. They can include solar panels, rain water drums, and even a composting toilet (you heard me.) Curious to see if the tiny home life is for you? From cabins to trailers to homes-on-wheels, here are 10 examples of tiny homes right here in the Midwest including Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri.
