This Season’s Hottest (& Easiest) Ways to Decorate Last Minute!
It happened again. As soon as December came, it went, and we find ourselves a mere handful of days away from the end of 2015 and the holiday season. I’m sure there are many of you who are in the final frenzy of gift shopping & wrapping, home decorating, and party preparations. The previous two weeks have been all about the latest trends in gift giving for the guys and girls in your lives, so this week it’s all about home decorating and party prep.
If there is one way I could sum up what is trending this holiday season, it’s this: DIY.
With the rise of Pinterest, also came the rise of DIY, or “Do It Yourself” projects. This means you’re using more affordable items to decorate rather than store-bought decorations or better yet, items you already own in your home.
I’ve narrowed it down to 5 broad categories for decorating trends popular this season – all of which are either easy to do, easy on the budget, or both.
Christmas Trees Made with Household Items
While it seems to be a holiday staple, some never find the time to go pick up a tree or have the funds to buy an artificial one – OR don’t want to deal with a full blown tree in your home! This season, were rolling up our sleeves and getting creative by producing a Christmas tree out of various household objects. It's widely popular this year, allowing us to save time, space, and money. Here are a few examples of how this can be accomplished, using books, driftwood or branches, a wooden ladder, and ornaments. Resourceful and practical, what could be better!
Whether you are in fact hosting that big holiday party, or simply want to add a bit of cheer to your kitchen, centerpieces are a fast, easy way to make a big statement. Below are some prime examples I found. Objects used include, ornaments (for those extra ones that won’t fit on the tree…genius!) flowers and cranberries, candles, garland, juniper or other greenery, etc. The possibilities are endless with this one!
Decorate the Staircase
If you happen to have a staircase in an area of high traffic in your home, this might be a great, easy way to make your home feel decorated without much effort. The examples below go past the typical garland spiraling the banister and add hanging ornaments, personal photos, Christmas cards, and even stockings if you don’t have a fireplace!
Signs are hot this season, and they come in many forms. Some include store bought on a canvas frame, drawn on your own personal chalkboard, or pinned on your own personal bulletin board. Signs are a great way to personalize your space and are highly versatile – meaning you can put them almost anywhere, on the wall, mantel, table, etc. Block letters are popular too. You can easily find plain cardboard ones at most craft stores, decorate them yourself then place on ladders or on top of a mantel. Below are some fun examples.
