Omaha Events to Keep You Busy Every Weekend This Summer

Omaha Events to Keep You Busy Every Weekend This Summer

I might be biased, but I personally think Omaha is one of the best places to be for a dynamically entertaining summer. The city has come a long way from its rural roots and this urban paradise has much to offer in 2016…to every age! Before we know it the warm weather days will be over in a flash, so start your summer off right and choose from any of the following events which are organized from outside to inside:

OUTSIDE

College World Series Opening Ceremonies

Enjoy the kickoff of this year’s annual Men’s NCAA College World Series that Omaha is proud to host at TD Ameritrade Park downtown. Opening Celebration Day is expected to draw around 30,000 fans according to ncaa.com. With a list of fun activities beginning Friday morning, and a concert inside the park by the indie rock band, X Ambassadors that night with a grand fireworks finale is one heck of a start to the perfect summer season. Play ball!

River City Music Festival

Spend some quality time outdoors enjoying good music at the River City Music Festival featuring 70’s band George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic, eclectic rocker Matisyahu and alternative artist Keller Williams at Bellevue’s own Sokal Park. Tickets are available now for the June 18th festival!

Stir Concert Cove @ Harrah’s Hotel and Casino

Not quite had your fill of summer music? Well here’s more- a LOT more. Stir Cove in Council Bluffs is a staple of outdoor fun for the Omaha metro area drawing thousands of music lovers across the river to enjoy all types of music all summer long. The 2016 lineup features everything from Chris Stapleton to Weezer, The Goo Goo Dolls, Foreigner, Rick Springfield and more! Tickets available now.

Yoga Rocks the Park @ Midtown Crossing

Ready to get your Zen on this summer? Well grab a friend or two and head to Midtown for some afternoon relaxation and exercise with a multitude of shops and restaurants to explore before or after. Occuring every Sunday at 4pm. Registration begins at 3:30pm. And the best part? It’s FREE.

Jazz on the Green @ Midtown Crossing

If you’re not into yoga but you’re into Midtown and all the adventures it has to offer, head there for Jazz on the Green – a Thursday event from July 7th to August 11th. Music and outdoor lovers cover the rolling greens of Midtown with lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the free entertainment with friends, family, or a nice glass of wine.

INSIDE/OUTSIDE

Vibes at Village Pointe

Don’t worry - the fun isn’t all on the east side of town. For those around west Omaha, The Vibes at Village Pointe is probably something you’ll want to check out. Introducing the 2016 Summer Concert Series running from late May to late August! Click here for the schedule – the next concert featuring The 402 Band will play at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill this Saturday, June 18th

Rockbrook Village Organic Farmer’s Market

“The Rockbrook Village Organic Farmers Market is an intimate affair where you can comfortably stroll, shop and feel confident in the quality of food for sale. Get to know the Farmers growing your food & learn about their specific practices behind the scenes.

This is the second year for this community-service event and we are thrilled to partner with other local farmers and business owners as it relates to our mission at Rockbrook Village of supporting local.”

River City Star Cruise

This is a perfect idea of something “out of the ordinary” for you and friends or family to experience together. While people may not travel to Omaha specifically to sightsee, the views from a River Boat tour are sure not to disappoint during our beautiful summer and fall months. The River City Cruise also offers public lunch cruises as well as public dinner and Irish dinner cruises – with discounts for seniors and children. Enjoy a view you don’t have to travel far to see!

INSIDE

Who needs a special event to have fun? Why not take the fun by the reigns and sign up for one of this summers’ most refreshing events (if you’re 21+ that is) with an Omaha Brew Bus tour. $47 a person gets you a four hour guided tour to 3 Omaha breweries and a flight of four 4oz beer tastings. While most Omaha dwellers know about the Joslyn Art Museum, however, many don’t know about the Joslyn Castle: a diamond of Omaha history. Omaha has a great history and this is a relaxing and entertaining way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Public tours are available on the first and third Sunday of each month at 1pm 2pm and 3pm. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, students and military.

Latin Madness Salsa Sundays @ The House of Loom

Salsa classes begin every Sunday night from 7-8 with Latin music and open dancing from 8pm to close. All levels welcome! (Whew.)
