6 Lifesaving Apps That Will Make Your Holiday Season Merry & Bright

Determination to be organized for the coming holiday season is often like New Year’s resolutions. It is a mindset created with fire, fury, bravery and gumption but likely will fall flat because, well, life has a pesky way of getting in the way. Distractions pull us in every direction, dizzying our path to successfully reaching our goals. Maybe your goal is to have every gift purchased on your list before Christmas Eve. Maybe you want your Thanksgiving meal executed without any hiccups (or substantially less than previous years). Or maybe you want to not wake up on December 26th with the weight of buyer’s remorse on your chest knowing you totally blew the shopping budget. Whatever your goal may be, our goal right here and now is to supply you with tools to make you a total success this holiday season. Even better, it won’t cost you an extra dime and it’s all waiting at your service from your pocket right now. That’s right folks we’re talking about the best and brightest of holiday apps!

If you have any inclination to roll your eyes at this moment, hear me out: don’t toss it before you try it. Sometimes all it takes is the proper motivation to do some research to find options that might really make a difference in keeping your cheer level at a peak throughout the next handful of weeks.

This list will go in order of the following categories: gifts, lists, shipments, lifts (travel) and pics. All the apps are compatible with iPhone and Android phones and most have options to upgrade to a premium version for access to even more features.

1. Christmas Gift List Lite

This app is going to make the task of gift shopping much easier. You can pull people from your contacts to start making a list of gifts to get each person. It can even has what they call data visualization and sorting tools which helps generate ideas for people you may be unsure of what gifts to get them. Additional features include optional password protection, statistics and analytics and a countdown to December 25th.

2. Goodbudget Budget Planner

Goodbudget is not necessarily associated with the holidays, which has the potential to become a helpful financial tool for you to use year round. If you are a visual person, this might be just what you need to help you stay on track. You can share budgets with family members or friends and it will sync with your other devices as well. Your data is securely backed up and you can download transactions to a CSV file. It will prepare reports for you regarding your budget, income vs. spending and others. It uses what they call envelope budgeting which is a concept that means you allocate money to various categories based on your particular lifestyle and keep track of separate balances for each. This prevents overspending from one single account and helps you see where your money actually goes. Discipline is a big part of financial management and seeing is believing with apps like this.

3. Wanderlist

While the Christmas Gift List app helps you with shopping lists, this task manager can also be taken beyond the holiday season and focuses more on overall “to-do” lists. It will help you with all your party planning and all the tasks that are associated with the holiday season. Features include adding due dates and reminders, and you can also share lists with others if you’re tag teaming with someone else on a project.

4. ParcelTrack

I would venture to say the holidays present the busiest time of year for shipping services and with such drastic spikes in volume, mistakes are often made and so too are headaches. This app is designed to help take much of the stress away from packages going to and fro. Track all of your packages in one place from over 50 delivery services. Features like sending push notifications to let you know when your package is being delivered will help keep you on schedule in in your Wunderlist app. It also provides delivery forecasts and live tracking so you have a general idea of shipment arrivals to help you plan and can keep an eye on them while they are en route. Another perk is it keeps an archive of shipments to help with returns and such.

5. App in the Air

If you are familiar with the film Planes, Trains and Automobiles you know traveling around the holidays can be a major pain. Even more so than traveling normally is because everyone’s in a rush and everyone’s got somewhere to be. App in the air was created to be your personal flying assistant giving you real time status, airport tips and in-airport navigation maps, flight profile with all your flights logged and the app even works offline requiring no data roaming. When you’re the one going to and fro it’s best to have as much information and organization as possible and App in the air can help with just that.

6. Slidebox

One of the most popular pastimes of the holidays and spending time with family and friends is documenting it through photo and video. If there’s ever a side effect to this pastime it would be the number of photos and videos we actually take and then alternatively get lost in the shuffle of our camera rolls long after the holidays pass. This app takes care of that! Organize your photos like never before and easily find that one photo you want to show someone instead of scrolling through hundreds of other photos.
